Man Saves Daughter By Punching Mountain Lion In The Face

A man from Vancouver Island saved the life of his two year old daughter by punching a mountain lion in the face after the animal attacked the girl whilst she was playing in her backyard. In an interview with the Vancouver Sun, the girl’s mother said Bree Nielsen sustained some puncture wounds to her chest, face and back, but other than that was in relatively healthy condition.

“She was crying but she’s OK,” Andrea Nielsen said.

Dad reacts instantly

The incident took place on Vancouver Island Canada which lies just of the coast of British Columbia Canada. The girl was attacked in the Tahsis which is a forested coastal community. The mountain lion attacked Bree as she was playing with her older sister and their new puppy. Both parents were close by and fortunately were able to fend off the attack. The girl’s father Travis Nielson reacted immediately by lunging at the mountain lion and punching it in the face

“At first we thought it was a large dog, but then we realized – after my husband pulled my daughter out of the way and punched it in the face – that it was actually a cougar.” Andrea Nielsen said.

Was able to fend off mountain lion

In an interview with CBC Travis Nielson said the mountain lion approached Bree from behind and jumped on her back with her head in its mouth. Mr. Nielson said he did not know what the animal was and did the only thing he could which was to grab his daughter with one hand and strike the animal with the other.

Happy that no one got hurt

The mountain lion fled after a lot of screaming and Bree was taken to a local clinic and was released after being treated for minor injuries. Conservation officers later killed the animal they believed to be the mountain lion responsible for the attack. Mr. Nielson said that though the family was shocked by the incident, they were very happy that Bree is OK.
